Oh and i nearly forgot...

Friday Fight Brusiers from jason phelan on Vimeo.

This made me chuckle, had to watch these two at it a few too many times growing up though, the time which sticks out the most is a fight over who ate a cottage pie which ended in fists flying all over the shop. Good to see time hasn't changed you boys!

Chunder o'clock

Is what i expect Halloween to be for someone, i was supposed to be in Brighton this week but due to a lack of money at both ends, I'm instead spending it reading mind numbing history books, playing megadrive, chain smoking & wishing it was dry enough for me to ride. Although there is a prospect of a quick trip down to Bournemouth for some pre-Halloween wastage with my good Friend Josie, so its not all bad. Anyways i digress back to Halloween yeah everyone knows the best thing about meaningless Americanised holidays when your a student is house parties and Halloween always creates lots of them. I'm still unsure about what my costume should be though at the moment I'm leaning towards either 80's metal zombie or ghost, pretty much just because of the wonderful lack of effort involved in both coupled with the praise I'll get for actually doing anything.Should be good times despite my envy at everyone from back home going to unit 23 halloween jam in Glasgow, but alas there was no room for a wee one in the car.

Anyways im off to read some more shitty books about class mobility & social history, the words in no particular order my, Fuck & life spring to mind.

Foward rolls & frank turner

I just realised i completely forgot to write anything about seeing frank turner last night despite the fact it was one of the best gigs I've been too recently(and writing about it means i can take my head out of an exceptionally boring history book). I could probably go on about the set list & about how he managed to make largely acoustic music fit well when played with a band but yeah you probably don't want to know, so all I'll say is that you should go buy,beg or steal a copy of love, ire & song which i reckon is his best album to date and pretend you were there yourself, some kinda role play thing.

anyways I'm pretty sure he opened with this which is probably one his best songs, the video's pretty cool as well.

Oh and this is amaaaaaazing, totally what bmx should be about. found it on some Scottish blog.

that is all

Tea & Pancakes

For once I'm going to write about something that i actually feel matters, how unusual is that eh? Before i explain my disdain for a certain way of thinking, i would like it to be known i in no way have anything against Christians themselves, up until the age of around 11-12 i was brought up in beautiful christian ignorance by my rather religious mother. However i do have a problem with being invited into a 'christian union' for tea & pancakes and the promise 'we are absolutely not trying to convert you' at 2am pre-crushing hangover. I fully understand this was an act of charity & I'm grateful for the tea, i really am but it was the conversation that followed which kinda got me.
It went something like this:

Me: One thing i do have a problem with is Christianity's stigma against gay people, i mean I'm not gay but most of the people I know who are put a lot straight people to shame in terms of human nature, yet their all going to burn for eternity or whatever?

Superhappychrisitandude: We'll i don't really believe that but the bible does say its 'a sin to lie with another man'

Me: people can't help the way they are though, i doubt many people are born with the intention to be gay.

shcd: errrrrrmmmm.....(more bible quotes)

after several minutes of small talk...

Me: what about the whole sex before marriage thing? surely if you believe that 70% of the worlds already in the lift down to hell?

shcd: I believe that if you repent when you do it then its OK.

Me: So you just break the rules and say sorry later?

shcd: errrrrrrrmm.....

I realise that someone will read this and think I'm a complete arsehole, but i have nothing against the belief in a god, we all need some comfort. However i do have a problem with how hypocritical & ridiculous most organised religion is. For example i feel with the exception of maybe do not steal or murder & honour your parents none of the basic priciples set out in the ten commandments have any place in 21st century society, so to base your life on them to me seems frankly ridiculous but hey each to their own im certainly not about to go on a one man crusade against religion.

Bloctober

Bloc party were pretty dang sick last night, it was an interesting night to say the least with the first gig since I've been at uni in a venue larger than a shed which made a something of welcome change and didn't dilute the atmosphere of it at all. In terms of performance i would have preferred a bit more of silent alarm as the only song i remember them playing off it was 'modern love', but meh you can 't have it all & they did play this:

Which was an absolute treat, not sure why there's not a proper video other than this weird drawing thing above but to quote the great men themselves 'if that's the way it is, then that's the way it is' ( ehrrmm cheese).

Anyways the weekend of good music continues with Frank Turner tonight at the student union with household drinking commencing at 5 o'clock, it promises to be a good'un.

Fixie fetish

I know this is very 'un-bmx' & im very likely to get slated and one or two slaps from more bmx faithful friends(tom & james in particular), buuuuuut.... im kinda wanting a bigger bike to cruise about on. This isn't a farewell to bmx (far from it) or my conversion to the gay, pretentious fixie scene either, but i figured I've always loved bikes of all shapes and sizes even when i skated buut if i was to ride something bigger to and from the boozer it would have to be single gear. Also I've heard Leeds & united badman ricky feather has started a fixie/racing bike company and they look fookin rad so in effect I'm supporting another small bicycle rider by buying a bigger bike, go figure. Or have a look here and shut me down for not being 'bmx' enough.
